Sling Fitness

Matt Farley from Sling Fitness is seeking expressions of interest to hold a Sling Fitness-TRX Instructors Course here in Canberra. This one-day course provides the comprehensive education for you to effectively and safely train your clients. In this course you will learn:

Anatomy and Physiology

This unit covers the application of basic anatomy and physiology of the major systems of the human body and to understand the functional significance of these structures in relation to movement and exercise.

Client Induction and Screening (20 hours)

This unit covers the knowledge and skills to identify clients general fitness requirements and provide a basic screening form to clients. Participants will learn how to take blood pressure and girth measurements, measure one’s flexibility, strength and muscular endurance. Lastly, future trainers will learn to measure a client’s cardiovascular endurance (VO2max) through the 3-minute step test and treadmill tests. “Age” measurement systems will also be analysed. It is suggested that participants have an understanding of anatomy and physiology before taking this unit.

Units of Competency covered:

  • SRFFIT001B: Provide orientation to clients prior to undertaking a fitness program
  • SRFFIT003B: Undertake client induction and screening

  • Fitness Equipment & Programming (28 hours)

    This unit is an introduction to fitness instruction and covers the knowledge and skills to develop a basic exercise plan of general activities suited to client’s needs, lifestyle and exercise preferences as well as review and adapt a client’s exercise program in accordance with their progress. Additionally, the classes cover how to supervise fitness activities in a manner that makes the client feel at ease, safe and motivated. (Pre-requisites: Anatomy and Physiology; Client Induction and Screening).

    Units of Competency covered:

  • SRFFIT004B: Develop basic fitness programs
  • SRFFIT005B: Apply basic exercise science to exercise instruction
  • SRFFIT006B: Use and maintain core fitness industry equipment
  • SRFGYM001B: Instruct fitness activity skills to a client using fitness equipment
  • SRFGYM002B: Customise gym instructional skills to include specific areas of expertise current in the fitness industry

  • Plan and Instruct Group Exercise / Circuit Classes (20 hours)

    This unit covers the knowledge and skills to provide the instructor with the skills to plan and instruct a basic group fitness class of a type common in the fitness industry. It will also allow the group or exercise to music instructor to develop a broader range of skills in group fitness activities current and relevant to group instruction in the general fitness industry or in their specific workplace. These would usually involve specific class formats for specific clients groups, equipment, or environment.

    Units of Competency covered:

  • SRFCTC001A: Plan and instruct a circuit training class
  • SRFGEX001A: Plan and instruct a group exercise class
  • SRFGEX002A: Customise instructional skills to include specific group fitness activities current in the fitness industry

  • Basic Nutrition (4 hours)

    This unit provides basic nutritional information and advice to fitness industry clients, who have no dietary or nutritional concerns. Subject matter will also cover the knowledge and skills to provide basic information about healthy eating and design exercise plans and programs to manage the body compositions in clients.

    Units of Competency covered:

  • SRFFIT015A: Provide nutrition advice to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines

  • Exercise Delivery to Specific Populations (4 hours)

    This unit covers the skills and knowledge to provide appropriate advice to specific population clients on participation in fitness appraisals and fitness activities. It covers the pathology of the more common disease states and conditions encountered within the fitness industry and the limiting effects of the condition on exercise performance and functional capacity.

    Units of Competency covered:

  • SRFSPP002A: Develop and Apply an Awareness of Specific Populations to Exercise Delivery

  • Motivational Psychology for Physical Activity (8 hours)

    This unit covers the knowledge and skills to analyse client behaviours and recommend strategies for exercise adherence.  Emphasis will be on identifying the barriers that people have that challenge them to participate in exercise and how, as a fitness and health professional, one can reduce those barriers.  How to utilise motivational psychology and arousal techniques will be discussed.

  • SRFFIT012B: Utilise and understanding of motivational psychology with fitness clients
